Our energy future

ExxonMobil signed in 2019 and 2020 agreements with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and has been awarded concessions in the Mediterranean. In 2023, ExxonMobil secured exploration rights to two blocks, Masry and Cairo, offshore Egypt, located in the outer Nile Delta. The largest 3D seismic survey in the Mediterranean has been completed and drilling Nertari 1 Well in North Marakia Block in the Mediterranean Sea is scheduled to take place by the end of 2024. Our objective is to identify anchor development opportunities to create a long-term upstream business in Egypt.

In preparation for this drilling campaign, ExxonMobil organized in May 2024 in Al-Alamein Egypt, a training aiming to increase our “Readiness to Respond” in emergency situations, with the Regional Response Team RRT. This drill which has been conducted in collaboration with the Egyptian authorities and organizations is a strong demonstration of ExxonMobil’s commitment to safety, and adherence to global standards of environmental compliance.

Bringing ExxonMobil technology to the upstream business in Egypt is a vote of confidence in the business environment at large, enhancing the presence of international oil companies in Egypt and encouraging more investments.
