Empowering Egypt's future
Our community investment is focused on education and capacity building of the youth, and economic opportunities for women, areas identified as the nation’s highest priorities:
- Karama Foundation for Social and Cultural Development: Karama Foundation aims to achieve economic, social and cultural development for bearers of the Egyptian intangible heritage including traditional handicrafts. The Foundation utilizes its resources currently on reviving and developing traditional crafts at risks in Egypt to ensure their preservation. ExxonMobil Egypt contributes to Product Innovation in Traditional Embroidery Project through funding the training of marginalized women to enhance their economic opportunities and help them sell their own products while maintaining the cultural heritage of Egypt.
- El Sewedy University Of Technology – Polytechnic of Egypt: is one of the first Polytechnic Universities in Egypt offering a 4-year bachelor's degree in Technology (B.Tech) with international standards in collaboration with Indian Amity University Dubai, in a variety of fields and programs. ExxonMobil Egypt is a Silver partner through sponsoring an industrial engineering lab carrying the name of ExxonMobil for 10 years and hosting students for day tours at our plants.
- Injaz San3ety: a pioneering training program specifically designed for vocational youth aiming to deliver to the labor market highly qualified and motivated technicians. Since 2106, San3ety has annually availed about 50 grants for technical training and personal development for vocational students.
- Injaz Middle School Program: “Junior Achievement” business and entrepreneurial training for middle school students, relying on corporate volunteers. ExxonMobil Egypt joined the program in 2010 and has adopted a number of public schools in underprivileged neighborhoods in Cairo and Alexandria.
- MECA: Volunteering with MECA student activity at Ain Shams University, to help engineering students bridge the gap between industry and academia. Annually impacting 100 students, by delivering technical curricula, by developing their interpersonal skills, through training, mentorship and internship.
- The American University in Cairo: more than 175 teachers and administrators completed the Teachers’ Professional Educator Diploma, a 2-year certified diploma to learn and acquire new tools in Educational Leadership (EDL), Early Years Learners (CELE), Teaching Adolescent Learners (TAL) in addition to STEAM Education. Reaching thousands of students and improving the quality of education in Egyptian classrooms.
- Enactus Egypt: sponsoring annual trainings and special competitions for university students since 2010, annually impacting 800 students from 66 universities engaged in social entrepreneurship projects positively changing the lives of members of the surrounding communities.
- Misr El Kheir Foundation: Sponsoring Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Challenges through GESR Program to support technology-based innovations
- Sawiris Foundation for Social Development: contributing to Bab Amal Program, pathway out of extreme poverty to improve the livelihoods of ultra poor households in Upper Egypt. Since 2022, ExxonMobil Egypt has adopted 75 families in Assiut through Bab Amal. Participating families secure more than one source of income, engage in income-generating home-based projects and acquire access to financial services.
- Alwan wa Awtar: Supporting since 2015 curricula development for non-formal education targeting children aged 7-15, focusing on literacy, math and life skills, using art and music. This Foundation is annually impacting 120 students, by positively changing their lives, with self-learning skills, acceptance of others, and exploring various learning disciplines via the Arts.
- VTEC: Providing youth in Alexandria with grants for vocational training and employment, with Alexandria Business Association, in addition to active employee volunteering. Since 2018, this program has helped more than 150 youth polish their technical skills in various specializations needed in the labor market and secure employment. Through this collaboration, ExxonMobil Egypt has established a solar energy training workshop, crucial for the training of skilled solar energy technicians.
- Women Equality through Economic Equality: succeeded to reduce barriers to women’s economic participation and improve their capacity to sustain income-generating activities. Implemented between 2016 and 2019, WEEE has successfully impacted 1100 women, engaging them in about 50 village and savings loans association, supporting 500 ongoing micro-projects by women. It has also empowered 600 youth, 240 young children enrolled in 8 new Early Childhood Care and Development and engaging 3500 community members and establishing a training and marketing center.
