LIFT Program
ExxonMobil Baton Rouge is one of two pilot sites for a new company mentoring initiative called LIFT (Leaders Inspiring the Faces of Tomorrow). Through this collaboration with 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge, Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System and YMCA Baton Rouge, participating sixth through eighth grade students will have mentoring and tutoring sessions, exploratory field trips and STEM-related activities to facilitate career readiness and academic success.
ExxonMobil’s summer programming for students creates a direct pipeline to the North Baton Rouge Industrial Training Initiative (NBRITI). Founded by ExxonMobil in 2012 in collaboration with Baton Rouge Community College, NBRITI provides basic craft training at no cost to qualifying participants. Students receive fast-tracked classroom and hands-on training, which also includes life skills and workforce preparation.
High School Internship Program for Juniors and Seniors
Rising juniors and seniors can get industry experience (and a head start on their futures!) by participating in ExxonMobil's eight-week High School Internship Program. Through the program, students can explore careers as electricians, instrument technicians, machinists, pipefitters, welders, analyzer technicians, laboratory technicians, engineers and more – all while working 40-hour weeks and earning a competitive wage. The program started in 2021 with six students and has grown exponentially each year.
Each student has an ExxonMobil employee mentor and is receiving hands-on training in addition to working on an intensive technical project throughout the summer. Beyond career exploration, the program includes volunteering, resume building, interview skills, presentation skills and contractor site visits.
The application process for our High School Internship Program typically begins in February. Be sure to follow our Facebook page for updates.
Jump Start Academy for Freshmen and Sophomores
Jumpstart Academy is a week-long summer program sponsored by ExxonMobil in coordination with Baton Rouge Community College. Students will visit a variety of workplaces to learn first-hand about technical careers and the education necessary to secure those careers.
What do the students say about their experiences with ExxonMobil? Watch the videos.

Virtual Reality Training Labs
At ExxonMobil, virtual reality is more than a game – it’s a lesson. When it was time to lift a massive reactor into place for the Polypropylene Growth Project [LINK], the team already had the virtual experience – complete with the sight, sound and muscle memory – of sitting in the crane cab and performing the lift.
Eight local IT firms created virtual modules such as the reactor lift module to train workers safely and effectively for the project.
Baton Rouge Community College and the National Center for Construction Education & Research adopted the construction safety modules created for this project for further instructional use.
Additionally, ExxonMobil awarded grants to establish virtual reality training labs at local schools, where students will be trained on process technology and industry-related scenarios. These labs will help students learn important skills to access pathways into careers both within and beyond STEM fields.
North Baton Rouge Industrial Training Initiative
ExxonMobil strives to create and maintain a diverse workforce, representative of the community where we work. Founded by ExxonMobil in 2012 in collaboration with Baton Rouge Community College, The North Baton Rouge Industrial Training Initiative (NBRITI) provides basic craft training in electrical, instrumentation, millwright, pipefitting and welding at no cost to qualifying participants. Students learn through fast-tracked classroom and hands-on training, which also includes life skills and workforce preparation. Graduates earn nationally recognized construction certifications from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER).
NBRITI is a collaborative effort of diverse community, industrial and educational partners throughout the greater Baton Rouge area, all committed to one goal: to recruit, train, develop and sustain a pipeline for North Baton Rouge residents to have successful careers with local industrial employers. The program works to place all graduates in full-time positions in their respective fields.

ExxonMobil LSU Scholars Programs
As ExxonMobil works to create sustainable solutions that improve the quality of life and meet society’s evolving needs, we need the best talent available. Students are the future problem solvers, creators and leaders to help us achieve innovations that will advance modern living and a net-zero future.
Our ExxonMobil LSU Diversity Scholars Program has been funded at LSU since 2003. The program focuses on four goals:
- Attracting more minority students in the College of Engineering
- Providing scholarship funding through graduation to allow our students time to focus on their studies instead of working part time
- Creating a network of mentoring support from career professionals.
- Increasing retention, graduation and employment rates for the College of Engineering.
