ExxonMobil Asia Pacific chairman and managing director Gan Seow Kee to retire after 41 years with the company

SINGAPORE – Gan Seow Kee, chairman and managing director of ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd., will be retiring effective January 1, 2021 after 41 years with the company. He will be succeeded by Geraldine Chin, director of ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd.

Gan, who has been in his current role since 2014, is also the president and director of ExxonMobil China Petroleum and Petrochemical Company Ltd. and serves as board director in Fujian Refining and Petrochemical Company Ltd. and Sinopec SenMei (Fujian) Petroleum Company Ltd.

He joined Esso Singapore in 1979 and has held various roles in manufacturing, sales and marketing, supply and trading, planning and finance in Singapore and the United States. This includes leading ExxonMobil’s global oil products supply and trading business based in the United States.

Gan was appointed to Singapore’s Council of Presidential Advisers in 2020. He is also a vice-chairman of the Singapore Business Federation and a board member of the Singapore Economic Development Board. He serves on the Singapore Ministry of Trade and Industry's International Advisory Panel on Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering, as well as the National University of Singapore Engineering Faculty Advisory Board.

In 2017, he was conferred the Medal of Commendation (Gold) Award by the National Trades Union Congress for making significant contributions to labour relations and also received the Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award by National University of Singapore in 2018.

“I have had a long and rewarding career with ExxonMobil that spanned across a variety of roles and gave me opportunities to manage various parts of ExxonMobil’s business across the world,” said Gan. “I am privileged to have been able to contribute to the growth of ExxonMobil’s presence in Singapore, to the tripartite benefit of the company, the country and our people.”

Chin, a Singaporean, joined ExxonMobil 32 years ago. Throughout her career, she has held various positions in Singapore and the United States including sales and marketing, supply and trading, planning, human resources and research. She serves as a Board Director of Sinopec SenMei (Fujian) Petroleum Company Ltd., and is involved in internal councils for the leadership development of women and Asians in ExxonMobil.

“I am humbled and honoured to be appointed to the role,” said Chin. “In his tenure, Gan has grown the talent and leadership bench strength, and contributed to the growth and competitiveness of our manufacturing complex and business in Singapore. The long-term fundamentals of our business, and the strength of our organisation and people, give me confidence that we will weather the challenges brought about by the pandemic. We remain committed to providing the energy and products that support daily living and society’s progress, whilst ensuring we minimise impact on the environment, as we do our part to support Singapore’s long-term low emissions development strategy.”
