Empowering youth in shaping a sustainable future through the YEA Programme

ExxonMobil is dedicated to responsibly meeting the world's energy needs with efficient fuel while reducing emissions, and is also focused on empowering young people to become climate leaders who can address energy challenges and help build a sustainable future.

Supported by ExxonMobil Hong Kong (EMHK), the Civic Exchange’s Hong Kong 2050 is Now Young Environment Ambassadors (YEA) Programme celebrated its closing ceremony on August 24. The program comprised six comprehensive training sessions throughout July and August, including a sharing session on ExxonMobil’s initiatives in advancing lower-emission technologies by Jimmy Hau, ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Marketing Supervisor. During the program, 35 students from Forms 3 to 5 across 25 local secondary schools collaborated in teams to design and implement their own sustainability projects. These projects were showcased at the closing ceremony, where three teams received awards for their outstanding ideas. Notably, the ExxonMobil High Potential Award was given to the project that demonstrated the greatest feasibility and impact on its intended audience.

Desmond Chan, External Affairs Manager, EMHK Public & Government Affairs, was invited to serve as a judge and, alongside Wynne Leung, Public & Government Affairs Consultant, as guest speakers at the event. They noted, “The global population is expected to reach 10 billion by 2050, which will require an estimated 15% more energy than in 2023. We need more experts to lead innovative initiatives concerning energy use and improved living standards. It is rewarding to see our future climate leaders equip themselves with essential knowledge and develop practical projects that have the potential to make a significant impact. We hope this program serves as a gateway for participants to develop expertise in energy solutions to help shape a sustainable tomorrow.”
