Mid Coast Surf Life Saving Clubs Group recently held an Amazing Race event with 50 participants at Maslin Beach, South Australia, aimed at including, retaining and developing youth members.

Sponsored by Mobil’s Birkenhead team, the event featured various activities designed to help participants build problem solving, leadership, communication and teamwork skills. Activities included first aid scenarios and team bonding exercises requiring ‘patrol teams’ to work together to resolve problems.

Mid Coast Surf Life Saving Clubs group consists of 5 surf clubs on the South Australian Mid Coast: Aldinga Bay SLSC, Christies Beach SLSC, Moana SLSC, Noarlunga SLSC and South Port SLSC.

The Amazing Race event is just one of many fun activities held throughout the year for youth between the ages of 13-17, to engage members and provide opportunities for connection and skill development.

Mid Coast SLSC Group President, Nathan Amos, said,” The Amazing Race was an exciting event for our youth members and across our clubs we always try to find new ways to involve them through sport, teamwork and fun activities and in the process, we hope they can build skills and new friendships.”

Aaron Bandy, Mobil’s Birkenhead Terminal Manager, said, “The Birkenhead team is thrilled to have been able to support this event, which is important for the clubs to maintain connection with the youth of our community.

“Congratulations to Mid Coast for putting on such a great Amazing Race!”
