• July 12, 2024This week marks National NAIDOC Week, a time where all Australians celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
To show our commitment to celebrating and valuing Indigenous Australians’ culture, team members from our Longford and Long Island Point sites attended flag raising ceremonies that were held by our community partners, Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Association and Willum Warrain Aboriginal Association respectively.
An Aboriginal guest speaker has also been invited to our Docklands office to share more about the importance of NAIDOC Week and his lived experience as an Indigenous person in Australia.
Over the last few years, we have sought to engage with and establish close relationships with our Aboriginal communities surrounding our operations and incorporate their cultural practices in our workplace.
We also encourage participation and involvement of Indigenous peoples in our recruitment and development programs, honouring diverse backgrounds and supporting our employees by creating a culturally inclusive workplace.
We continue to work closely with Supply Nation to identify Indigenous businesses that can supply goods and services that are competitive and meet ExxonMobil’s safety, technical and quality standards, and timing needs.
Since 2022, we have contributed approximately $100,000 to Aboriginal organisations surrounding our operations, helping to support key projects including the upskilling of literacy skills in young Aboriginal children.
We continue to build on the importance of celebrating and acknowledging the richness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander language and culture and know that our relationships with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community are paramount in ensuring everyone has a voice within our community.
