ExxonMobil Australia is providing funding that will support Foodbank Victoria to deliver 60,000 meals to Victorians in-need during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Foodbank Victoria’s mission is to sustainably source and distribute healthy food so that all Victorians can be food secure. Each month, the organisation provides food relief to more than 140,000 people who struggle to put food on the table. In recent weeks, these numbers have increased dramatically.
Foodbank Victoria is also the official emergency food and water relief organisation in Victoria, and played a key role supporting those in East Gippsland affected by the bushfires earlier this year, as well as having an important role in the state’s current COVID-19 response.
“2020 has been a very challenging year for so many people across Victoria, but particularly those who have been impacted by the East Gippsland bushfires and the COVID-19 pandemic response,” said ExxonMobil Australia Chairman, Nathan Fay.
“We are proud to support Foodbank Victoria and their important work to keep food on the tables of Victorians in-need during this very challenging time.”
The organisation is already responding to a dramatic increase in the number of Victorians requiring food relief assistance as a result of the various measures that have been put in place to contain the COVID-19 outbreak.
“At Foodbank Victoria we have such an important role to play in supporting our community at all times, but never more so than in times of emergency” said David McNamara, Chief Executive Officer of Foodbank Victoria.
“In times of crisis, such as what we are experiencing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for food and other basic essentials is greater than ever. We need to make sure no one gets left behind.”
As part of the Victorian Government’s COVID-19 response, Foodbank Victoria is also working with the Red Cross to provide emergency relief hampers to Victorians in mandatory isolation that have no access to food or essential items and no support from family or friends.
“I hope that through our support of Foodbank Victoria, we are able to make a positive contribution to the lives of vulnerable Victorians during this unprecedented time,” said Nathan.
