Mobil New Zealand’s continued support for Patea Community Patrol has been pivotal to the local community. This funding assists with increasing patrolling and community activities to ensure the safety of the Patea community.
Patea Community Patrol is a volunteer organisation in Patea, South Taranaki which works alongside police to prevent crime and reduce harm in the local community through the active presence of trained patrollers.
Patea Community Patrol has been working closely with its local Police Liaison Officer around inter-agency cooperation and how all the volunteer organisations can work together in Patea.
The funding from Mobil has allowed the Patea Community Patrol to grow its profile and become one of the leaders in this field. The group’s recognized longevity, increased visibility through extra patrols, and ability to lead other community projects, such as the hotspot security camera project currently underway, have stemmed from being able to direct efforts into attracting more members and more skill sets for the organisation.
Victoria Brown, Patea Community Patrol’s Treasurer, says, “The Mobil support, and that of our other sponsors, means our day to day running and maintenance of the Patrol car does not need to consume our volunteers' time, and makes it more appealing to become part of the Patrol.
“Patrollers want to patrol, the local police want us to patrol, and the community does also. The combined focus is preventive and deterrent action, in order to make Patea and its surrounding rural areas unified in the purpose of creating a safer community.”
“Michelle and Jay at the Mobil Patea service station have also enabled the Patea Community Patrol to receive the benefits of Mobil service in Patea. They provide a key community service and we are proud to be associated with business people with integrity.”
Mobil’s support on a local and national level has helped the Patrol to be seen as a key link in building community spirit through collaboration.
