COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

STEM education

Supporting education is a part of our DNA. We are working with local educators, universities and nonprofits, as well as global academic leaders to address the STEM education gap.

We want to help refill the STEM pipeline with the best and brightest engineers and scientists.

Opening the doors of STEM education

The ExxonMobil Foundation is joining forces with Khan Academy to open the doors of STEM education throughout Texas.
MATH AND SCIENCE INITIATIVES

Closing the learning gap

Engineers help shape the future. Whether it’s developing new fuel sources, managing energy resources more efficiently or exploring the outer edges of the universe, engineers make it happen. However, not enough U.S. students are pursuing engineering or other careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). By supporting programs that improve teaching and learning in these key areas, ExxonMobil is focused on making a difference in our children’s lives and our nation’s future.

EXXONMOBIL’S ROLE

Education pathways

ExxonMobil is focused on inspiring and preparing our youth to pursue STEM careers through empowering teacher success, supporting students and partnering with leading education organizations.

Teacher STEM Training program

The ExxonMobil Foundation has launched a Teacher STEM Training program in collaboration with local universities. We want to enhance the STEM knowledge of Houston-area middle school math and science teachers at Title I schools and inspire new ways of delivering STEM content to students. During this year-long experience, teachers will engage in sustained, research-based professional development opportunities and learn innovative instructional practices, all at no cost to the teacher.

Teen Engineering and Tech Centers (TETCs)

Our ExxonMobil Foundation Teen Engineering and Tech Centers (TETCs) will offer innovative after-school programming that will introduce students to STEM education and potential STEM careers at no cost to students or their families. The curriculum will connect a student’s passion to tangible career paths, while preparing him or her for success in school and beyond. The first TETC will open in the fall of 2024 in Spring, Texas, and a second facility will follow in Houston. Future plans call for opening centers in other communities where ExxonMobil operates.

Our partners in supporting education worldwide

Teachers are critical to the success of our students and future workforce, which is why ExxonMobil supports organizations that work directly with educators. Partners like the UTeach Institute, National Math and Science Initiative and Teach for America ensure that classroom teachers are well-prepared and able to help students develop the knowledge and skills to succeed in college and future careers.
