Official opening ceremony of Esso Australia's Hastings Generation Plant

We recently celebrated the official opening of our Hastings Generation Plant (HGP) facility at Long Island Point (LIP).

A special ribbon-cutting ceremony was held with our Production Manager Geoff Humphreys and Long Island Point Plant Manager Andrew Cooke, alongside Zoe McKenzie MP (Federal Member for Flinders) and Liz Westcott (Executive Vice President of Woodside), with ExxonMobil Australia team members and management, and key stakeholders from the Hastings and Mornington Peninsula community in attendance.

The opening of the plant marks a significant milestone for us, ensuring the continuation of a reliable supply of natural gas to Victoria. This $200 million investment will reduce the need for flaring at LIP and generate enough electricity to power as much as half of all the homes on the Mornington Peninsula.

Despite numerous challenges, the team stayed unified and committed to delivering this critical project. Over four years of hard work, a commitment to safety and excellence and a One Team approach, has now resulted in the safe and reliable startup of this power generation facility – the first of its kind in Australia.

Well done to the team!
